Nicole Tanquary works at the intersections of feminist rhetorics, political communication, and critical discourse studies, broadly motivated by the question of how we, as rhetorical beings, act (or fail to act) when differences in power have been weaponized against those at the margins, and what steps we take to hold one another responsible. Her most recent work investigates how political journalists discuss sexual violence in the post-#MeToo era, treating journalists' accountability of politicians as a rhetorical process deserving of critique. Other scholastic interests include rhetorical criticism; political rhetorics; intertextuality (particularly recontextualizations); studies of frames; how victims are depicted in text; political confrontation; and the rhetorics of horror film.
